PRESS RELEASE

Sisters of Watts, a community-based, initiative founded by Robin Daniels, her sisters (Keisha and Penny Daniels), and their cousin, Jessie Crummie, is the recipient of the prestigious NFL Foundation Players’ Community Service Match grant from former LA Rams’, DeSean Jackson, who is a Las Vegas Raider.

Sisters of Watts

DeSean Jackson states that he chose to identify several grassroots organizations, in Los Angeles, that are making social impacts in their communities to distribute his NFL Foundation Players’ match grant to support their mission and work in the community.

DeSean and his mother, Gayle Jackson, Co-Founders, of the DeSean Jackson Foundation, chose the Sisters of Watts for the exemplary work that they are doing in the Watts community; and, their ability to cultivate key partnerships in both the public and private sectors while advocating for equality across race, gender, education, employment, healthcare and economic investment in Watts. Furthermore, Jackson said that the ladies, of the Sisters of Watts, remind him so much of his phenomenal mother, Gayle; and the integral role she has played in his life and also impacted each of the communities where he was privileged to play in the NFL; regardless of whether or not the team, city or fans embraced us and our foundation. “I am humbled and honored to have the Sisters of Watts advocating for our community”, states DeSean Jackson.

DESEAN JACKSON DONATES CLEATS AND SHOPPING SPREE TO LONG BEACH POLY TECH JACKRABBITS

Post by: Joie Adams, DeSean Jackson Foundation, 7/29/2021

Prior to reporting to the 2021 Los Angeles Rams’ training camp, NFL All-Pro, wide receiver, and Long Beach Poly alum, DeSean Jackson, stopped by Poly Tech to commend Coach Stephen Barbee for 28 years of impacting the lives of his Poly teams; and, to surprise the football team with cleats and a shopping spree to Champs.

Desean states that he most definitely had to check on the Poly Jackrabbits before he reported to the LA Rams’ training camp for this his 14th year, in the NFL. He often “rolled up” on the Jackrabbits unannounced over the years to inspire, motivate and the Jackrabbits. It is important for them to know he has a vested interest in their team and individual successes. “I made it out and I want them to make it out”, he says.

Several starters of the Poly Jackrabbits lost fathers, mothers, grandparents or friends before the season started; all of their lives were disrupted financially, academically and psychologically due to the Corona-Virus and, many of their families are unfamiliar or confused about the impact the California, Fair Play to Pay Act, will have on eradicating generational poverty, developing economic parity and strengthening families.

“Knowledge is Power”, states DeSean, ” I had Bill and Gayle Jackson educating themselves on the system, protecting me and helping me. I want to instill the importance and value of education as a tool for them to be the architects of their own destiny. I want them to maximize their potential to control and be successful in all aspects of their lives”.

Therefore, it was imperative for DeSean to “pop up” on the Poly Jackrabbits before he reported to LA Rams’ training camp.

FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE

October 20, 2015

Cinnaminson High School, a four-year public high school, of Cinnaminson Township in Burlington County, New Jersey, will be teaming up with the DeSean Jackson Foundation (DJF), on October 30th to host its 2015 inaugural “Purple Out” to raise Pancreatic Awareness.  The DeSean Jackson Foundation was founded by former Philadelphia Eagle and present Washington Redskins’ wide receiver, DeSean Jackson, and his mother, Gayle, in 2009, after DeSean’s father, William “Bill” Jackson died from Pancreatic Cancer.

Michele Iaconelli, Cinnaminson High School, English and Psychology teacher, states, “We are so excited to host a “Purple Out” at our home football game with Burlington City, on October 30th.  The cheerleaders will be wearing purple bows and the football players will be wearing purple sweat bands on their wrists.  In addition, we have purple leis for the band members to wear; and, purple ribbon bandanas to sell to raise donations for Pancreatic Awareness.  The Student Council officers will be walking around the stands with purple on also”.

Gayle Jackson, President, of the DeSean Jackson Foundation, was extremely emotional when she was approached by Cinnaminson High School principal, Darlene Lellewelln, about hosting a “Purple Out”.  Gayle stated, “We lived five minutes from the school for several years while DeSean was a Philadelphia Eagle.  The parents and students were are neighbors and friends; and, we launched our first anti-bullying campaign at Cinnaminson High.  We are humbled and honored. They know our pain, passion and purpose. They know our hearts.”

“Purple Out” is a national initiative that was developed by DJF in partnership with the faculty and students at Andrew G. Schmidt Middle School, Fenton, Michigan that empowers students to be change agents by advocating for Pancreatic Awareness, crucial funding for research; and, petitioning the NFL for an annual “Purple Out”.  DeSean and Gayle cultivated a culture that encourages the youth to utilize DeSean’s national platform as an elite, professional athlete to “Be the Change You Want to See in the World” by teaming up with DeSean.  “One Team, One Purpose” is DeSean’s concept for mobilizing youth across the nation regardless of their NFL team affiliation to join the Jackson family in this fight.
