Nadin Khoury, Bullied Pennsylvania Teen, Meets DeSean Jackson on “The View”
NEW YORK (CBS) A Pennsylvania teen who was beaten by several classmates in a attack caught on video tape got a big surprise when he appeared on “The View” Thursday.
Three members of 13-year-old Nadin Khoury’s favorite football team, the Philadelphia Eagles, came on the program to meet him.
Wide receiver DeSean Jackson, center Jamaal Jackson and Todd Herremans came to greet Nadin Khoury after his interview and praised him for his bravery.
“You’re brave, because this happens every day and people are not brave enough to stand up and take this on,” DeSean Jackson told him. The wide receiver then took the jersey off his back, signed it, and gave it to the teen, and made him an honorary member of the Philadelphia Eagles.
“Anytime ever you need us, I’ve got two linemen right here … my boys are ready to come down,” he said.
Khoury was kicked, dragged through the snow and then hoisted into a tree, allegedly by six of his classmates. When he tried to run away, he was hung by his coat on a tall metal fence. One of the accused students videotaped the attack on his cell phone.
On the program, he said he was bullied because of his size and because his mother is African-American and speaks with an accent. “I was scared for my life,” Nadin said.
‘They Could Have Killed That Kid’
Nadin was captured on his way home from school last month. After he was attacked and hung on a fence, a Good Samaritan came by, took Nadin off the fence and walked him home. He was not seriously injured.
“They could have killed that kid, impaling him by the neck on that metal barrier. This kid was screaming for help, and they beat this kid. … It’s bullying. It’s bullying in America at its worst. It’s caught on video,” Michael Chitwood, the superintendent of Upper Darby Police said at a press conference.
Chitwood said the arrests at Upper Darby High School are related to a Jan. 11 assault at an apartment complex courtyard. The video was taken by one of the seven alleged attackers.
Nadin said he was terrified.
“I tried to get out, tried to leave, tried to escape, tried to get up the tree and run away, but even when I did that … they attacked me, and they caught me again,” Nadin told ABC News.
“This is scary man. This is crazy — there is nothing you can do to protect your own kids,” Nadin’s mom told ABC News, crying. “What can I do about it? I’m a single person. I got two hands and two feet. I can’t fight a whole group, I can’t fight a whole school, I can’t fight a whole district.”
It’s still not clear what prompted the attack. The students attend an alternative school for troubled teenagers.
